Olympus E-1 User Reviews
  • Olympus' E-1 offers a unique 4:3 format sensor allowing for the use of smaller and cheaper lenses with faster apertures. The Four Thirds sensor also makes for photos that fit sizes like 8 x 10 more closely without the need for cropping. The camera itself is ruggedly built, offering rubber seals and gaskets to seal out dust and rain - making it ALMOST waterproof! The E-3 also has a unique vibration device that shakes dust off of the CCD keeping it clean and free of dust and specs. Olympus had this feature first, and other camera manufacturers have recently started to offer dust cleaning as well. Photo quality is excellent, with particularly good color and white balance. Unfortunately, images above 800 ISO can display a lot of noise and the 5-megapixel sensor falls a bit short. This camera has recently been replaced by the E-3, Olympus' top-of-the-line digital SLR. - Staff
